The effects of non-profits in New Orleans are unbelievable. Most businesses and people measure the effect of something they have done in their ledger book, either it made me money, or it cost me money. Instead, non-profits measure their effects in the tears of a grateful new homeowner who was built a house because theirs was taken from them by a tremendous storm; or in a young child's smile who was once a social outcast, is now learning the beauty of teamwork with his new friends in an outdoor classroom. These are the type of measurements that scientific instruments can't compute, the kind that make your heart feel warm and fuzzy, the kind that prove the old adage true, that it truly is better to give than to receive. If your heart has been touched in someway by a non-profit over the years, pay it forward, do your part, so you can be the change in New Orleans.
